Befriender
Our visitor and telephone befriending services offer support and companionship to older people who are socially isolated and in need of friendship.
Voluntary role
To visit and actively listen to or telephone an older person each week, meet new people and learn new skills.

A DBS check is required for visiting befrienders.
Drivers (minibus)
With the assistance of our volunteer drivers we can offer vulnerable older people the opportunity to socialise and take part in activities such as bingo, quizzes, etc.
Voluntary role
Volunteer drivers drive our Age UK minibus and escort service users to and from various venues across the Borough of St Helens. They assist older people getting on and off the bus. Our clients may be vulnerable, isolated and frail older people.
Volunteer attributes
- A full, clean driving licence, not PSV as our buses all have a maximum of 16 seats
- Empathy with older people
- Good communication skills
- Teamwork and organisational skills
A DBS check is required for this role.
Fundraisers
Voluntary role
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our Fundraising team to promote and raise awareness of AUKMM and help to organise fundraising events and activities.

Gardeners
The Mansion House is a unique and beautiful Grade II listed venue that is owned and managed by Age UK Mid Mersey, with extensive public gardens.
Voluntary role
Volunteers are needed to help with the upkeep, development and protection of the gardens and outdoor spaces at our Mansion House site so that they can be enjoyed by all visitors. If you enjoy getting your hands dirty and working in the outdoors this is the perfect role for you.

- Some experience of gardening
- This role can be physically demanding so you'd need to be reasonably fit and willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Helping Hands Service volunteer
Our Helping Hands volunteers provide help with those odd little jobs that can cause a big headache for older and vulnerable people.
Voluntary role
To offer low level support with domestic tasks such as changing curtains, settee covers or light bulbs, re-arranging furniture, clearing clutter and clearing lofts.

- A car driver is preferred as Helping Hands jobs could be anywhere within the boroughs

Hospitality / housekeeping assistants
The Mansion House is a unique and beautiful Grade II listed venue that is owned and managed by Age UK Mid Mersey, boasting a café and coffee shop open to the public.
Voluntary role
- Meeting and greeting customers
- Operating the till
- Taking orders
- Serving pre-prepared food
- Serving drinks
- Laying out and clearing tables
- Help with cleaning duties and maintaining a high standard of hygiene

Laundry volunteer

Voluntary role
Washing, drying and ironing items from our hospitalities function, including uniforms, table linen, chair covers, etc.

Older People's Forum Member
Halton Older People’s Empowerment Network (Halton OPEN) is a local independent forum facilitated by Age UK Mid Mersey and established as a conduit for the voices of Halton’s older people.
Voluntary role
To promote improved quality of life by empowering older people and their carers to undertake campaigns in order to influence decision-makers.

Receptionist
Voluntary role
To act as the first point of contact with our clients, answering and directing phone calls and greeting visitors.

Social inclusion volunteer

Trustee volunteer
Want to make a difference to local older people and help shape the future of our Charity?
We are looking for dedicated people who can volunteer their energy, time and skills to become Trustee Board members.
Empathy towards the challenges of ageing would be an advantage, but not essential...passion and commitment are far more attractive to us. We are looking for skilled people of any age with a range of professional and life experience.
This is an opportunity to oversee governance and provide strategic leadership to the organisation at an exciting time of change and growth.
You will need to commit to attend bi-monthly Board meetings and sub-committee meetings, as well as contributing to projects and events throughout the year.
