Age UK Southampton offers free and comprehensive advice on a wide range of subjects.
We can help you identify the problem, explain the choices available and help you decide what you want to do. We may be able to provide individual support if you need further help to resolve the problem.
About our service
- Advice on disability benefits including Attendance Allowance and Disability Living Allowance (DLA) as well as other pension-age benefits such as Pension Credit , Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction.
- Completing benefit and income maximisation checks, form filling, advice on eligibility and support to apply. We are unable to support with working-age benefits.
- Support with understanding and challenging decisions and appeals about welfare benefits.
- Simple money guidance to help you maximise your income, apply for grants, and help you understand the basics of day-to-day correspondence and bills.
- Benefits in residential care and hospital settings
- Benefits advice following a bereavement (such as funeral payments, benefits checks)
- Information on Power of Attorney, wills and dealing with an estate

- Home visits for certain benefit forms such as Attendance Allowance, where we are not able to support in another way

Income maximisation
Our resources can help you maximise your income and we have specialist advisers that can provide free benefits advice and complete benefits checks - many people don't realise they could be entitled to extra money.

Help with disability benefits
If you have a long-term health problem or disability, you could be entitled to extra money from the government called Attendance Allowance or other support to help you stay independent.
