Walking Tennis
Our Walking Tennis programme began with the support of the LTA Tennis Foundation and has quickly become a much-loved part of our Active Lives offering.
With simple rules and no running or jumping, Walking Tennis is low-impact and accessible to all, so it’s suitable if you’re trying tennis for the first time or returning to the game. Led by a fully qualified coach, our sessions are fun, inclusive and welcoming and are a great way to stay active whilst also enjoying the social side of sport in a relaxed, friendly and supportive environment.
Katie Boulter, top GB tennis professional and three-time WTA tour winner, has played tennis with our groups twice - visiting us at Sutton Tennis Centre and, in November 2025 for a special Tea and Tennis session at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton where she caught up with the group to hear how their sessions were going. Read more about her latest visit and see the short film of the event.

“I go every week, rain or shine, I look forward to seeing those people every week. My mental health has gone up, my mobility has gone up - two or three years ago, I never envisaged that I’d be able to walk properly – it's been really good for me.”
“I would encourage anybody, irrespective of age or whatever, just to go and try, because if you don’t try, you just don’t know” - Derek

“I used to play a lot of tennis, it reminds me of the days when I was younger but it still doesn’t stop me getting out there and whacking the ball and feeling part of something inclusive.” - Jan

“I love the exercise,” said Maria, “and I’ve made friends, as we have coffee then we go out on the court... I look forward to it every week.” - Maria
When?
We run two weekly groups: an open session on Mondays, which is accessible to all and suitable for people living with long-term health conditions, and a dedicated ladies’ group on a Wednesday. Both groups have built strong friendships that extend well beyond the court.
