We're currently recruiting dedicated and passionate individuals to join our Board of Trustees.

As part of this process, we wanted to introduce you to our current Board and share a little more information about their background, interests and skills.

Fourth up is Geraldine Lancaster, who has been a trustee for fifteen years:

“I have lived and been involved in promoting caring services for Millom and the wider Copeland community all my life.

I have been a trustee at Age UK West Cumbria for over 15 years. This is an extremely rewarding and challenging role that I would recommend to anyone who, like me, is passionate about this community and ensuring dignified care for our older members.

My relationship with the charity began during my professional career in the NHS.  Initially, training as an RGN nurse at West Cumberland hospital, my vocation led me to work as a surgery and district nurse and later into management with responsibility for the development of Millom hospital and community nursing services in Copeland.

After I retired I wanted to continue to serve Millom and Copeland and felt I had knowledge and transferable skills that could serve Age UK West Cumbria, a charity whose caring ethos I identified with and respect deeply.

As well as serving as a trustee I am also a longstanding; nursery school governor, St. John’s Ambulance volunteer, Fair Trade activist and local choir member.

Underpinning all of the above is the reciprocal love and support of family.  Having a large family, that continues to grow with grandchildren and great grandchildren, fills my life with pride and joy.  Being so included in all their lives constantly enriches my life and has impressed upon me the value of inter-generational sharing and relationship.

I believe inter-generational relationships are vital to future of the charity and the community we serve.  As a trustee, I work, as part of a team that has to be dynamic in its approach to serving a growing aging population.  We are lucky to be supported by a young and vibrant management team that help us to deliver services together with our wider team of dedicated volunteers.

Therefore, going forward, Age UK West Cumbria would welcome and encourage being enriched by trustees of all ages.”
