Visit from Baroness Barran MBE & Mark Jenkinson MP

Published on 10 March 2020 11:51 AM

On Wednesday 19th of February 2020 we were visited by Barroness Barran MBE and Mark Jenkinson MP during the Barroness' ministerial visit to the area.

Barroness Barran is the UK's Minister of Civil Society and DCMS, and Mark Jenkinson is the newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Workington.

Both were given a tour of our premises in Workington by David Hole (CEO) and Anne Prowse (Chair of Trustees), and told about the vital services we offer to older people in the area. We also talked about the challenges facing third-sector organisations, especially those who work within adult social care.

During the tour Barroness Barran and Mark Jenkinson met with Karen Armstrong, our Information and Advice worker. Karen discussed the high demand for this service across Copeland and Allerdale, and how her work helps vulnerable older people with issues like; benefit entitlement, heating and bills, social isolation and housing.

The pair also met with older clients from our Day Activities centre, a social activities service specifically designed to help older people whose health and mobility issues make it difficult for them to leave their home.

We would like to thank both Barroness Barran and Mark Jenkinson for a very informative and enjoyable visit.
