Age UK Barnsley’s 50km for the 50 Plus sponsored walk has raised over £1,300 for the charity, which will go towards supporting older people in the Barnsley Borough.

The walk set off at 6am from the Glass Works Square in Barnsley Town Centre on Saturday 26th August, heading around the Barnsley Borough in a bid to visit as many towns and villages as possible throughout the day – before drawing to a triumphant close back in the Glass Works Square on Saturday evening.

Commenting, Age UK Barnsley Chief Executive Debby Bunn said: “We are absolutely delighted and very proud to be able to announce that 50km for the 50 Plus has raised over £1,300 for Age UK Barnsley.

“We are a fiercely independent local charity who rely on the generous donations and support of Barnsley people to deliver services on behalf of older people. Every penny that we raise helps us to deliver our mission of making Barnsley the best possible place to grow older.”

As well as collecting money in sponsorships and donations on the day, Age UK Barnsley also ran tombolas in Barnsley Markets and at the Eldon Street Shop.

Debby continued: “We always intended this to be a fun, accessible day where we could come together and raise vital funds for a worthwhile cause. We are hugely grateful to everyone who got involved in making 50km for the 50 Plus a success.

“We hope that this will become an annual event to raise funds for Age UK Barnsley – watch this space!”
