Age UK Barnsley welcomed the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Barnsley, Councillor John Clarke and Mrs Doreen Clarke, to their Queens Road headquarters for a tour around the newly-refurbished Elizabeth Activity & Care Centre and Ken Littlewood Suite, followed by a conversation about the services that Age UK Barnsley provide for older residents in Barnsley.

Councillor Clarke, who represents the Worsbrough ward, has a long-standing affiliation with Age UK Barnsley and is considering nominating them as one of the chosen charities for his Mayoral year.

Commenting, Deputy Mayor of Barnsley Councillor Clarke said:

“Age UK Barnsley do fantastic work for older people in the local community. I know first-hand the compassionate care they provide, as my late mum was a regular attendee at the Day Centre on Queens Road. She always had a great time and wanted to stay for hours she enjoyed it that much!

“I’m definitely considering nominating Age UK Barnsley as one of my chosen charities for my Mayoral year to help raise funds to support their work.”

Commenting, Age UK Barnsley Chief Executive Debby Bunn said:

“It was a great pleasure to welcome John and Doreen to Queens Road to see for themselves the transformative work we have delivered as part of the Elizabeth Centre and Ken Littlewood Suit renovations.

“John and Doreen spoke very movingly about their personal experience of Age UK Barnsley when John’s mum was a day services client and it was so heartening to hear about how much she enjoyed her time with us.

“We are so pleased that they are thinking about us for their Mayoral year and look forward to working closely with them.”
