Age UK Barnsley to do 50k for the 50 plus Sponsored Walk

Published on 24 July 2023 08:00 AM

Age UK Barnsley are delighted to announce that on Saturday 26th August we will be doing 50k for the 50 Plus to raise vital funds on behalf of older people living in the Barnsley borough.

The walk will be 50 kilometres around the Barnsley borough, aiming to visit as many towns and villages as possible throughout the course of the day, before cumulating in Barnsley town centre on the Saturday evening.

Full details, including the route, will be released nearer to the event but we are encouraging as many people to get involved now.

Commenting, Age UK Barnsley Chief Executive Debby Bunn said: “We are delighted to be doing the first 50k for the 50 plus this year and we hope that this will become an annual event to help raise vital funds for Age UK Barnsley.

“We are a fiercely independent local charity who rely on the generous donations of time and money from local people to help support the work that we do and enable us to provide services on behalf of older people. Every penny raised by us goes towards delivering our mission of making Barnsley the best possible place to grow older.”

There are lots of ways that you can get involved in the 50k for the 50 plus, including:

  • Signing up as a walker (even for just part of the walk!) and collecting sponsorship via a paper form – give us a call on 01226 776820 or email enquiries@ageukbarnsley.org.uk to register your interest
  • Giving generously to our GoFundMe campaign or calling 01226 776820 if you would like to discuss a donation by cash or cheque.
  • Coming along on the day to cheer our intrepid walkers
  • Sharing the word about 50k for the 50 plus with friends and family or on social media

Debby added: “There’s so many ways that you can get involved – we want to make this an accessible and enjoyable event for everyone; having good fun whilst at the same time raising funds for Age UK Barnsley.”
