Barnsley Men in Sheds are looking for new volunteers

Published on 07 June 2023 07:29 AM

Age UK Barnsley’s innovative Men in Sheds Project is on the lookout for new volunteers and members to support its mission of providing a warm and welcoming space for older men in Barnsley.

Based in the Newburgh Building on McLintock Way (just off Summer Lane), Barnsley Men in Sheds is a place where like-minded older men can come together, have a chat over tea and biscuits whilst learning new skills such as woodworking, IT and much, much more...

The Shed aims to support older men aged 50 and over who may have experienced life changing events such as redundancy, retirement, bereavement and mental or physical ill-health. It may be that you are just looking for something new to do!

Barnsley Men in Sheds relies on volunteers and members to keep it running. If you could lend a hand, even for just a couple of hours each week, then please get in touch with Andy Graham on 07498 605829.

Commenting, Age UK Barnsley Chief Executive Debby Bunn said:

“The Barnsley Shed is a safe, supportive and friendly place to meet, where men can socialise, do a bit of light work or busy themselves doing a hobby or learn new skills.

“'Shedders' will have access to facilities and workshop space where they can share and learn skills.

It's an opportunity to get out and about and get involved in something new and different and continue to be happy and enjoy life as it should be.

“We know that older men, especially those who are widowed or live alone, can struggle with feelings of loneliness and social isolation. We believe that doesn’t have to be the case. There is always a space at Barnsley Men in Sheds for those who want to get involved.

“If you want to get involved at Men in Sheds, whether as a volunteer or a member, please get in touch.”
