People aged 50 and over plan to set the record straight on growing older in Bolton

We are delighted to be supporting a new campaign started by people aged 50 and over from Bolton and across Greater Manchester who are changing the record on what it means to grow older in the region.

A group of community reporters have teamed up to launch the Talking About My Generation campaign and set the record straight on ageing by reporting on other people from their generation and charting their stories of life over 50; celebrating their lives and highlighting challenges associated with ageing and how they are being overcome - to inspire people to live the life they choose, regardless of age.

The team delivered the campaign until March 2020; meeting at monthly newsrooms and attending local events and groups to cover key issues that they felt were important in later life: from retirement to staying active. Stories will be shared in a variety of formats - from photography and press releases to podcasts and videos.

From hosting their own reggae radio show to delivering their own photography clubs, the community reporters also showed off their own range of talents and experiences – as well as learning new skills, including podcasting and media production. The new PODCAST is now live and you can find it by searching ‘Changing The Record’ in the podcasts category on Spotify, Deezer, Google and Apple Podcasts.

The Talking About My Generation Campaign was an Ambition for Ageing project, which is co-delivered with the support of PR social enterprise Yellow Jigsaw and the Age UK partners from across the funded areas: Wigan, Salford, Tameside, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Bolton and Manchester.

Suzanne Hilton from Age UK Bolton said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Talking About My Generation Campaign. The community reporters will challenge views and change the record on growing older – showing what this is really like for people in Bolton and across Greater Manchester.

"Please join us to share how people are rocking retirement.”
