Ukraine

The sad news from Ukraine is relentless and our thoughts are with those affected by the war.

We are collecting cash for our partner Age International, one of the 13 charities on the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) to support older people affected by the war. Donations may be given at the Jubilee Centre or our shops or online at https://www.ageinternational.org.uk/

Since last Friday, £285.50 has been raised at the Jubilee Centre and this money has been sent to Age International, so they can get it to their staff and volunteers in Ukraine. Thank you for your support.

We are unable to accept donations of goods to be sent to Ukraine. The Polish Centre was greatly supported by people of Bury and the Bury Times reported they are considering doing another appeal, when the current stock has been shipped out.

On Sunday 20th March, there will be a “Stand With Ukraine” fundraising event. The Bury Ukrainian community will raising funds for Ukrainian refugees. The event will take place from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Ukrainian Centre, 14 Openshaw Street, BL9 7EH,

Lots of activities from 4pm & an auction at 6pm, including a signed shirt by Oleksandr Zinchenko. There will also be an opportunity to write letters of support.

Coronavirus

As of Thursday 10th March, 255.9 people per 100,000 in Bury tested positive for coronavirus over the last 7 days – that is an increase of 28% from the previous week. On the same day, the England average was 393.8 people testing positive per 100,000 over the last seven days– an increase of 33% from the previous week’s figure. Coronavirus infection rates have risen in every part of Greater Manchester for the third day in a row and hospital admissions are also rising.

The best defence against the virus is the vaccination. See the Bury Council website for a list of places where you can get the vaccination https://www.bury.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=15987

Fourth doses are being offered to people with a severely weakened immune system. If you fall into this category, your GP or specialist will invite you for a vaccination. More at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/coronavirus-vaccine-people-with-severely-weakened-immune-system/

We are asking anyone who is ill to avoid coming to our Centre, shops and activities. We are still making sure sanitiser is available everywhere and asking people to take extra care when meeting with others.

We hope you have a good weekend. Stay safe.
