DFRS Community Contracts – prevention starts with you!

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service logo

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service (DFRS) protects the communities of Derbyshire by Preventing fires and emergencies from occurring, Protecting communities by enforcing fire safety legislation and Responding to emergencies. These are the three walls of defence ensuring safer communities. Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service recognises that it can only make communities safer with their help and support. This has been its approach through numerous partnerships for many years however, the Service now appeals to each and every individual to ensure their own personal safety and that of their families, neighbours and wider communities.

The Service recognises that prevention begins at home and has therefore introduced the ‘Community Contract’ to act as the first wall of defence, after all four walls are better than three.  The Community Contract is recognition of the communities’ role in preventing fires and other emergencies from occurring.  The Contract puts an onus of responsibility onto individuals to ensure their own safety. It is also recognition that the fire service alone cannot stop all fires and emergencies from occurring.

The Community Contract also enforces the Service’s existing commitment to the three integral parts of the fire service; Prevention, Protection and Response. Now with the addition of another wall; the responsibility of personal safety - communities can help Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service achieve its aim of ‘Making Derbyshire a safer place to live, work and visit’.
