In the UK today, there are around 7,000 people in need of an organ transplant, including 200 children. On average three people die every day because there just aren’t enough organs available.
For people in the black, Asian and ethnic minority communities the situation is even more critical. On average they wait a year longer for kidney transplants due to lack of suitable organs being available.
Anyone can sign up to the NHS Organ Donor Register at any time, age is not a barrier.
The good news is that 82% of the population definitely want to donate or would consider donating their organs. But only 50% have talked about it with their family, and it is family members who will ultimately need to agree to organ donation going ahead.
So not only do we need more people to join us and sign up to the NHS Organ Donor Register, we need more people to talk about it. It only takes two minutes to register and even less time than that to share your decision and tell the people you love YES I DONATE #OrganDonation
