Dementia Friendly Honiton
Dementia Friendly Honiton is a local community group working to make Honiton a welcoming and supportive place for people living with dementia and their carers. The group raises awareness and helps local shops, services, and organisations become more understanding of dementia by offering advice and training. They support activities like memory cafés, carer groups, and other inclusive events where people can feel safe, connected, and involved. Their goal is to help people with dementia stay active and included in everyday life, and to encourage the whole community to play a part in making Honiton more dementia friendly.
Honiton Memory Café – Methodist Church Hall
This is run by Dementia Friendly Honiton – and here’s what they say about it:
“Set up in 2010 Honiton Memory Café is a volunteer led friendly meeting place for people who have a new diagnosis of dementia or who are experiencing difficulties with their memory. We positively encourage our Friends to come along with their carer, a family member or a friend”
Members meet on the first and third Thursday of each month between 2.00 and 4.00pm.
Through the memory café members can also join other activities like the Ambling Group, Nostalgic Cinema, Short Mat Bowling, Pub Lunches, and other days out.
Honiton Carers Support Group
This is also run by Dementia Friendly Honiton.
The support group is “a warm and welcoming Carers Group which supports unpaid carers throughout their caring role and beyond. We welcome all carers including those looking after someone with dementia”
The group runs across a range of venues and times every month.
