News: Age UK Herne Bay & Whitstable (working with the Kent Consortium) secures three major contracts in Kent.

New awards from Kent County Council and NHS Kent and Medway Clinical Commissioning Group enable Kent Consortium to significantly increase its support for people living with dementia across the county.

Age UK Herne Bay & Whitstable is delighted to announce that after a successful tender submission it has been awarded three contracts from Kent County Council (KCC) and the NHS Kent and Medway Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

The awards will mean significant expansion of its work with people living with dementia in Kent, offering new dementia coordinator services in East Kent and an expansion of providing core post- diagnostic support services in East and West Kent. The contracts will be delivered in partnership with Age UK’s Canterbury, Tunbridge Wells, Dover, Ashford, Hythe and Lyminge, Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge as well as Age Concern Sandwich and Romney Marsh Community Hub.

Sue Cliffe, Chief Officer at Age UK Herne Bay & Whitstable commented:

“Times are always difficult for people affected by dementia but the pandemic has brought with it unprecedented challenges. We have worked tirelessly to be able to adapt the ways we deliver services to ensure that people always have access to help and support when they need it. We are so pleased to now be commissioned to work with colleagues in KCC, the CCG and with delivery partners to give our best efforts to supporting people along what can be a very lonely and challenging journey .”

Age UK Herne Bay & Whitstable have been awarded post- diagnostic support services contracts in East and West Kent. The model that was successful in the tender is modelled on that developed and delivered in Herne Bay over the past twenty years. The contracts now present the opportunity to expand services across a much larger part of Kent.

Age UK Herne Bay & Whitstable have also been awarded a new Dementia Coordinator Service Contract, providing people affected by dementia in East Kent the opportunity to receive one-to-one support and guidance through working with local coordinators. These services will provide help from pre- diagnosis, by supporting people to get a diagnosis then the help they need to live as independently as possible within their communities and families. The coordinators will work closely with local surgeries and memory clinics to start the memory pathway. Delivery partners are now actively recruiting for Dementia Coordinator and Organiser roles across East Kent.

Cleo Smith, CEO of Age UK Ashford, Hythe & Lyminge commented,

“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Age UK Herne Bay and Whitstable supporting those living with Dementia to access information, support and guidance. We are excited to get started and make a real difference to peoples lives”.
