loneliness awareness week

Loneliness Awareness Week is taking place this week from 14 - 18 June.

Loneliness can be really hard for people of all ages. After a year of lockdowns, social distancing, and restrictions, more of us are experiencing loneliness than ever. Loneliness is not just something that affects older people, it can affect people of all ages. It’s reassuring to know that it’s human to feel lonely and something that most of us experience at some point. It’s also good to know that there are things available to try out, to help us feel more connected.

To help us all ‘get together’ with others locally, we have many online events and activities planned throughout the month of June (for adults of all ages). Whether you’re creative, like history or just want to have a chat, you should be able to find one of our FREE online Get Togethers that’s of interest to you!

Visit the June Get Together Flyer for details of special June Get Together events. This could be an opportunity to discover new interests, meet others and to keep moving. In addition to our online activities, we are partnering with Greater London Walks as a part of their FREE Historical Walks around Islington. They will be offering walks weekly all summer long. Designed for senior citizens (60+), the walks are not too fast and not too long. Find out more information and sign up for walks at their website: greaterlondonwalks.com/free-historical-walks-in-islington.

We’ve also events that take place Monday to Friday every week, with regular cooking, yoga and creative Get Togethers.  See our Get Togethers page for more information.  If you’d like a chat to find out more about any of our activities, please contact our Helpline 020 7281 6018 / gethelp@ageukislington.org.uk. If for whatever reason, you're unable to attend any of our activities we can help you to investigate alternative options.

In the past few weeks, we have been liaising with partners to restart more face to face Get Togethers and are closely tracking government social distancing guidelines. Going forward we will be delivering a dual offer of face to face and online activities, to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to join an activity that is within their comfort zone. As always, we offer 1:1 digital support sessions. Please do not hesitate to reach out for support if you need it. Visit the Getting Started Using IT webpage for more information.
