VIP Express Lane

There will be a 'VIP Express Lane' for anyone that let's us know their hot drink of choice in advance! Simply select from our Dying Matters Hot Drinks Menu for priority service on the day (as best we can!).

Dying Matters Week

Dying Matters Week is a campaign that takes place every year, to raise awareness of the importance of having conversations with those people who are close to you, about what's important to them (or you) when it comes to end of life, or in a medical emergency.

Conversations can cover practical issues, such as who should take control of someone's financial affairs in the event of a long stay in hospital or if they no longer have the ability to manage their affairs. It could cover things to do with how the person would like to be looked after towards end of life - whether ideally at home or in hospital.

The Future Matters service is available to help you understand what needs to be considered and how to put measures in place to support these wishes, whether helping you to put in place e.g. a Lasting Powers of Attorney, Advance Care Plan or Will.

Understandably, we don’t want to upset people, or sound gloomy. In fact quite the opposite - people commonly report that it comes as a relief once the subject is brought out into the open. It can help you and your loved ones to cope better both emotionally and practically.

Professionals share their views!

We're delighted that professionals Dr Patrick McDaid, Dr Libby Sallow, Dr Patrick Schrijnen and Dr Beth Griggs will be popping in to see us at our coffee trike!  They share their thoughts about the Future Matters service (and what they'll be ordering on the day!)

Sharing Mireille's personal experience

There's a really insightful article from the Islington Tribune based on an interview with Mireille, director of Gentle Dusk, who delivers the Future Matters Service together with Age UK Islington.  She shares the difficulties that she personally experienced when her Dad couldn't return home from hospital as the family (and most likely he) would have liked too.

Upcoming events

To get an understanding of the basics that we would all ideally have in place to protect the wishes of our family members or our own wishes when it comes to end of life or a medical emergency - there are 3 options coming up!  Having a basic understanding of the conversations to have and the tools that can help could make all the difference to both you and your family.
