For Let's Talk in August we had a talk from Islington Carers Hub, highlighting the support that's available for anyone looking after a family member or friend in Islington.

The Nuffield Joint Pain Programme came to remind us about their free service which can help with mobility and balance.

We also heard about the 'Places for All' consultation that's being organised by Islington Council's Planning and Development Team.

Nuffield Health Joint Pain Programme

Do you have joint pain?

This free-to-access programme is designed to help you self-manage your chronic joint pain and lead a more independent life.

It’s a 6-month programme, which begins with 12 weeks of lifestyle advice and exercise sessions led by a Rehabilitation Specialist. This will equip you with the tools to better manage your pain.

Islington Carers Hub service

Do you look after a friend, partner or relative?

The Islington Carers Hub’s team provides emotional, financial and practical advice and guidance to unpaid carers aged 18 years and over. They can register you as a carer, introduce you to a network of Islington carers and help you to get a break.

An unpaid carer is anyone who cares for a friend or relative with an illness or disability without being paid. So, if you’re helping with shopping, paperwork, attending hospital appointments, you’re probably a carer. You might help someone round-the-clock or for a few hours a week.

Designing and planning accessible buildings and spaces in Islington

Do you care about ensuring Islington has places designed for all?

'Places for all' is a project run by Islington Council’s Planning Policy Team.

They're developing planning guidance for Islington's buildings, parks and streets – so that they work better for everyone.

There will be a workshop on places for all ages at Age UK Islington's Park Cuppa on 7 October and details of further workshops confirmed over the coming weeks. Email Islington’s Inclusive Design Officer Barbara Tanska at inclusivedesign@islington.gov.uk to express interest in either!

Being more active doesn't have to mean working up a sweat or joining a gym. It's about moving more each day in whatever way works for you. A few small changes can make a big difference.

 Age UK Staying Keeping Active

If you're not sure where to start, or would like to talk through your situation, Age UK Islington is here to help.
