The issues & priorities of people 50+ living in Widnes

13 May 2015

Halton Older People’s Empowerment Network (Halton OPEN) is the representative body for people aged 50 and over living and / or working in Halton and is embarking upon a new exciting phase in its work. This dynamic voluntary organisation has recently carried out a survey in Widnes to gather views of two community groups on the issues and priorities of people aged 50+.

The report from this survey has now been produced and Halton OPEN is very pleased about the high interest that has been shown already from Halton Borough Council and other local groups.

The survey, which was carried out in December 2014 by two Halton OPEN committee members, was based around questions that sought to get an insight into the real issues that older people face, living and / or working in Halton.  Halton OPEN’s new Development Officer, Clare Lightfoot (based at Age UK Mid Mersey in Runcorn), said “I am thrilled that the survey has been such a success. It just shows that people really do care about the quality of services for older people and want their voices to be heard”.  Halton OPEN will be undertaking a similar survey in the Runcorn area and has the support of other organisations in the area.

Halton OPEN’s new Chair, Lorna Plumpton, said “We are planning a re-launch for Halton OPEN later this year and will be hosting two ‘drop-in’ events.  We are also planning some more exciting work that we believe will lead to improvements in the health and wellbeing of Halton’s over 50s but we can only do this work with the support of our members”.
