Increase in Lasting Power of Attorney Registration Fees

Published on 11 September 2025 11:21 AM

From 17th November, the cost to register a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) will increase from £82 to £92 per document. This fee is paid when the LPA is sent to the Office of the Public Guardian, the government body that approves these important legal arrangements.

There are two types of LPAs: Health and Welfare and Property and Finance. These documents allow you to choose someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf if you are ever unable to do so.

Planning ahead for later life is one of the kindest things you can do for yourself and your loved ones. An LPA ensures your wishes are respected, your affairs are in order and can provide peace of mind during what can be a stressful time. It’s a worthwhile step that can help protect both you and your family.

Age UK Norfolk understands that the costs involved may be a concern. Financial support is available for those who need it:

  • 50% discount for individuals with an annual income under £12,000
  • Full exemption for people receiving certain income-related benefits

To make the process as simple as possible, Age UK Norfolk offers a free home visiting service across the county. Our friendly team can guide you through completing the paperwork, answer any questions, and ensure your LPA application is submitted correctly.

“We are here to help every step of the way,” said Emma Harkness, head of information and advice at Age UK Norfolk. “Taking the time to put a Lasting Power of Attorney in place is an act of care for yourself and those close to you. With our support, it doesn’t have to be complicated or stressful.”
