Leaving a Lasting Legacy

This coming ‘Remember A Charity in your Will Week'  (8th-14th Sep) is a chance to reflect on the difference we can make for future generations, right here in Norfolk.

At Age UK Norfolk, we believe later life should be full of dignity, independence and connection. Gifts in Wills from local people play a vital role in funding this work, ensuring we can be there for older people across Norfolk when they need us most.

Val, a Thetford resident, knows first-hand how our support can change lives. After moving to a village during the pandemic, she struggled with knee problems that left her lacking confidence to walk even short distances. With support from our Travel Companion Scheme, she set goals to walk further and rejoin her village coffee morning. Step by step, her confidence grew. “A standout moment was getting further than the end of the road,” she said. “We actually managed to walk several miles – something I hadn’t done for more than 20 years.” Today, Val feels able to join neighbours on outings and enjoys exploring her community again.

Not all support looks the same. Mary, aged 83 from Great Yarmouth, lives alone with no family and has severe sight loss and mental health challenges. Without a phone or internet, she became isolated and struggled to cope. Age UK Norfolk stepped in, visiting regularly to help ensure her bills were paid, negotiating better tariffs, and helping her secure the benefits she was entitled to. This transformed her life, allowing her to buy a washing machine and live without the constant fear of falling behind on bills.

These are just two of the many Norfolk people whose lives have been changed for the better thanks to Age UK Norfolk. But as our ageing population grows, so does the demand for our support.

By remembering Age UK Norfolk in your Will, you can leave a lasting legacy for older people in our county – helping ensure no one faces later life alone.
