Our service matches lonely and isolated older people with a trained volunteer travelling companion. We aim to reduce loneliness among older people in Norfolk by helping them reconnect with their local communities, friends, and family, while also building confidence to get out of the house and become more active.

Volunteers support older people to take steps towards leaving their homes and using public transport, community transport, and taxis. They can also encourage gentle activity such as walking or cycling where appropriate, helping people feel more confident about staying active and independent. Our volunteers also help older people overcome common barriers to going out, such as anxiety, low confidence, or worries about travelling alone.

Their volunteer companion accompanies them on journeys and provides friendly, empowering support to help them build the confidence to travel and get out independently. Support usually lasts for around 6–8 weeks, with the aim of reducing loneliness, increasing confidence, and helping older people feel more comfortable leaving their home and taking part in everyday activities.

We are open to referrals and providing support, but our coverage across the county is limited and depends on where our volunteers are based. Please get in touch to check whether we’re able to support older people in your area.

Opening Hours: Monday–Friday, 9am to 5pm.
