Back in 2021, the government introduced its National Bus Strategy. As a result of this strategy, funding was made available for improvements to bus services across the country.

Transport North East submitted the first Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) in 2021, setting out how they will improve bus services across the region and encourage more people to use the bus for everyday travel. As a result, the North East received a total of £163.5m in funding from the government to deliver the plan. This funding has helped to improve the North East bus network by:

  • Creating more affordable multi-modal fares through the launch of #AllDayAnywhere and #GetRound for £1 tickets
  • Offering all young people leaving the local authority care system in the North East free travel up to the age of 25
  • Improving bus services regionally and supporting bus services which were at risk of being cut

Transport North East are now preparing the Bus Service Improvement Plan for 2025-2029 and would like to know your thoughts on how they should spend any future funding that they receive from the government.

Complete the short survey using the button below to share your views – it should take less than 5 minutes and your opinions will be used to shape the future of the North East bus network; there are questions about what you think Transport North East should spend bus funding on, what would make you use the bus, or use it more, and then some questions to help them understand a bit about you.

When you complete the survey you can opt in to Transport North East's competition to be in with a chance to win one of two month-long travel passes covering bus, Metro and ferry for use across County Durham, Tyne and Wear, and Northumberland. Winners will be chosen at random on Monday 15 April 2024. Winners will be notified by email. Terms and conditions can be found here.

The survey is currently live and will run from Friday 1st March to 23:59 on Sunday 14th April 2024. Terms and conditions can be found here.
