Omaze House Draw Boosts Age UK North Tyneside’s Fight Against Loneliness

A partnership with Omaze has seen Age UK North Tyneside receive a donation to support older people who are feeling isolated and lonely in North Tyneside.

Age UK partnered with Omaze and their Million Pound House Draw last year, which offered participants the chance to win a luxurious £4 million Lake District property and £250,000 in cash. The draw raised £5,250,000 for Age UK – the highest amount Omaze has ever raised for a charity partner. The money has been split between Age UK’s national services and local Age UKs across the country, including Age UK North Tyneside, enabling the Charity to extend its social activity offerings and helping to support its friendship services.

Age UK North Tyneside’s services are crucial to older people in the local community, supporting people like Lilian. Lilian came into Age UK North Tyneside’s service after her wellbeing was affected by social isolation after a decline in her mobility. After being referred into Age UK North Tyneside, Lilian was introduced to Carol a Befriending Volunteer. They instantly clicked over their love for local history and over the last three months, Lilian has looked forward to Carol’s visits.

Lilian explains the impact Age UK North Tyneside’s Befriending Service has had on her life saying “Befriending changed my life. I didn’t realise I would be able to use the service - it’s helped me having something to look forward having Carol visit every week. Thank you for the time and support you’ve spent with me. I wouldn’t know the help out there if it wasn’t for you, you go over and above”

The donation will also help fund Age UK North Tyneside’s Dementia Connections service which supports those with dementia and their families.

Dawn McNally, Group Chief Executive at Age UK North Tyneside said:

“We’re thrilled to receive this donation from Omaze to support older people in North Tyneside. Contributions like this play a vital role in enabling us to provide essential services to older people and ensure we can be there for even more people in the future.

“Our services help thousands of older people in North Tyneside and it’s through the continued generosity of partners like Omaze that we’re able to keep making a difference where it’s needed most.”

“Omaze offers people the chance to win amazing houses, while introducing charities to new audiences they might never otherwise reach – it’s a real win-win for both entrants and our charity partners.

“We’re immensely proud that the Omaze community has now raised over £100 million for good causes across the UK – funding life-changing work in communities up and down the country.”
