We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded second place in the Tesco Community Grant scheme, which means we will receive a £1000 grant towards our work! This was made possible by you - members of the public, clients and supporters, who voted for us while shopping in Tesco stores. We are so thankful for the tremendous support received from the community for this campaign.

The £1,000 grant will go towards our projects aimed at easing feelings of loneliness and isolation that thousands of older people in Westminster experience on a regular basis. Our activities, services and support have helped connect hundreds of over 50s in our community through phone and in-person befriending, in-person and online activities and finding ways to help older people volunteer, build confidence and have their views heard.

With this grant, we will be able to create and host more social activities and meetups for people over 50 in Westminster, as well as continuing our great calendar of activities, which will help them socialise and build relationships with people in their community.

In expressing gratitude for the community’s support, Age UK Westminster’s CEO, Mehfuz Ahmed, said: This money will help us make a huge difference to over 50s in Westminster. We know loneliness and isolation are real issues for our older residents and clients, and we feel we can transform lives with the services and activities we offer. Thank you for supporting us.”

We also want to give a big thank you to Tesco for running their amazing grant programme, which has already provided over £90 million to more than 40,000 projects across Britain.

The positive impact our progammes are having in the community is clear from the feedback we receive expressing gratitude. It’s messages like these that gives us the motivation to keep doing what we do.

One of our befriending clients explained how the support we provide helped them during a difficult time:  “When I retired three years ago, I became cut off and started to feel low. That’s when I turned to Age UK Westminster’s befriending service. I really look forward to J’s visit, it’s a real booster to me.”

Similar sentiments were expressed by an attendee at one of our weekly activity events: “I wanted to write and thank you and your other volunteers for organising and conducting our ZSL tour yesterday. It was so lovely to be out and about in nature again.”
