We provide a Handyperson Service for older London Borough of Bexley residents. We can help with basic DIY jobs and small repairs to enable independent living.
Who is eligible for this service?
This service is for people aged 65 and over, or adults living with a disability, who live in the London Borough of Bexley or the DA1, DA2, DA9, and DA10 postcode areas.

What type of work can be carried out?
Lightbulbs: Replacing lightbulbs
Security: installing door chains and spyholes
Key safes: installing safes bought from Age UK Bexley
Safety measures: Fitting grab rails, securing floor coverings, smoke alarms (install or replace batteries), Carbon Monoxide detectors
Energy efficiency: fitting draught excluders, radiator heat reflectors and energy efficient light bulbs
Home improvements: hanging pictures/mirrors, putting up or adjusting curtain rails, installing shelves
Flatpack Assembly: Small furniture, e.g., tables, chairs, chest of drawers (we cannot accept assembly jobs where multiple people are needed to safely assemble and handle the item)
Minor and small repairs: replacing toilet seat, window latch repair, minor furniture repair
What work our handyperson cannot do:
• Electrical jobs
• Plumbing and central Heating (including repairing and replacing leaking taps)
• Roofing and guttering
• Decorating - painting and wallpapering
• Building work
• Fences-repair or installation
• House and gardening clearances
• Gardening
Please note this is not a call out service for emergency situations. All work carried out must be agreed in advance and by appointment only.
Charges
First Hour minimum- £36 (£18 deposit on booking and £18 to be taken at appointment)
Per half hour thereafter- £18
Light Bulb Change Charge- £18
+ Plus any material costs
Clients can be reimbursed the deposit if they give 48 hours’ notice of cancellation.
