This half day course is for anyone working or volunteering in a care environment, Age UK information and advice desk/reception desk or other services where there is face to face contact with people who have Dementia and their carers.
The course will cover:-
- What is Dementia?
- Types of Dementia
- The brain
- Diagnosis and treatment
- Person centred care and Dementia
- How Dementia affects people
- Strategies for managing behaviours
- Effective communication
- Making decisions
- Keeping people safe
Outcomes for staff
The staff will gain an understanding of what Dementia means to the sufferer and the ways in which normal routines and practices can be adjusted to provide the best quality person centre care possible.
Staff will gain an understanding of how good communication kills using both verbal and non-verbal techniques can enhance the care experience.
Staff/volunteers attending do not need any past experience of working in dementia care.
