Volunteer role description 

You will be the first point of contact at our Bolton town centre office, covering the main reception desk area. This includes answering phone calls, greeting clients and dealing with enquiries.  

What you'll be doing 

  • Greeting people as they arrive  
  • Dealing with face to face enquiries and signposting where relevant 
  • Answering the telephone, dealing with enquiries and transferring calls 
  • Using the reception information folder to find and pass on relevant telephone numbers and information 
  • Making drinks for clients waiting for their appointments 
  • Making sure the leaflet stands are replenished regularly 
  • Keeping the ‘brew station’ clean and tidy for customers 
  • Working as part of a team with other Age UK Bolton staff and volunteers
What we're looking for 
  • Skills and willingness to work face to face and on the telephone to clients 
  • Previous experience in administration / clerical work would be an advantage, but not essential as full training will be provided 
  • An open-minded approach to individuals, avoiding judgement and stereotyping
  • A liking for and interest in working with older people 
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Willingness to attend training and other events and to be able to commit to regular volunteering hours
  • Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check (criminal records check) 
Time requirements

10am – 1pm Monday to Friday (usually one regular day per week)
