Befriending and companionship for older people in Camden

How we’ve adapted this service in response to COVID-19

  • We are still taking referrals for both the NW3 and Primrose Hill Good Neighbours schemes

  • Befrienders are keeping in touch with members via the telephone and through letter writing

  • Face to face visits have been suspended and will only resume once we are advised it is safe to do so

Telefriends

In response to COVID-19 we have also set up a new telefriending service. We understand that this is a very difficult time for a lot of older people who are self-isolating, unable to see friends or family, and feeling anxious about their health and wellbeing

What is telefriending?

A telephone based befriending service which aims to support older isolated Camden residents to stay connected and offer a friendly listening ear to anyone who just needs a chat. This service will match you with a volunteer who will call you on a regular basis for a chat and a catch up.

Who is the service for?

Any Camden resident aged 55+ who is lonely, isolated and/or in need of a friendly voice at the end of the phone.

Referrals

Referrals can be made from Adult Social Care, GPs, hospitals, family and you can self refer.

Telephone: 0207 239 0400

We are not currently accepting any new referrals for this service.

We have befriending schemes in NW3, in Primrose Hill and a Dementia Befriending Scheme that runs across Camden.

NW3 and Primrose Hill Good Neighbours Schemes

It can be tough in later life if you are on your own. Sometimes family members move away, we lose contact with old friends, or a bereavement can leave us feeling lonely. If you need a bit of company, our befriending service can help.

Who is the service for?

The Good Neighbours Schemes match trained and checked volunteers with older people aged 65+ in NW3 and Primrose Hill. You will be prioritised for the scheme if you are isolated, housebound or living with disabilities.

What is befriending?

If you're feeling a bit lonely, or just would like a bit of extra company, then we can arrange a match between you and a volunteer, who will come to visit you or phone you on a regular basis.

Both the older people and the volunteers find it a really enjoyable experience, and lots of them have developed strong friendships.

Referrals to the scheme

Referrals can be made from Adult Social Care, GPs, hospitals, family and you can self refer.
