David Brown

With great sadness we learnt of the death of David Brown, formerly a trustee of Age UK Derby and Derbyshire between 2006 to 2019.
David had lived in Darley Dale for over 40 years and led Derbyshire County Council’s adult care services working from their offices in Underhall. He managed ‘home helps’ and a large social work team including care homes and day centres
He was a staunch supporter of our day care and social activities for older people and his frontline experience also meant he supported our Housing Options service from its early days.
On behalf of all at AUKDD I attended a service of thanksgiving at Darley Dale Methodist Church on Thursday 29th January 2026. Unsurprisingly, the large church was full and the service relayed to even more people sitting in the church hall next door! His lifelong, deep Christian faith and his love of people meant he had touched many lives, and it was a testament to his life’s work as a social worker and a volunteer in his local church and in faith and community groups that so many people remembered him so warmly.
In his last years he lived with dementia, cared for by his wife Brenda and children and grandchildren and supported by his community to which he had given so much. Despite his condition he retained his loving smile and joy at being surrounded by those he loved.
