imageughw.pngIntroduction to Live Stronger for Longer
Live Stronger for Longer is a service funded by DCC Public Health and delivered by Age UK Derby & Derbyshire. Our aims are to reduce falls rates and help people in Derbyshire live stronger and more independently for longer.
Falls are everyone’s business. When older people fall, it can have a really negative impact on physical, emotional and psychological wellbeing, often leading to loss of independence and confidence and can cause restriction in daily activities.

Give us a call or drop us an email - we’re a friendly team! Our support is freely available to ALL care settings across Derbyshire (excluding Derby City), though staffing limitations mean that you may be placed on a waiting list if demand for our support is high when you first get in touch.

Our preferred way of working is to utilise the standards laid out on the following pages. The requirements of these standards provide clear and measurable evidence of the falls prevention activities of care settings, and are recognised by the issuing of certificates at each level.

However, if you feel that the standards won’t work for your care setting, please give us a call to discuss how we can best support you. We work flexibly in order to help your service:

  • Reduce rates of falls and promote a ‘falls aware’ culture.
  • Improve service user health, wellbeing and confidence.
  • Support staff CPD relating to the causes and impacts of falls

The introduction of activity at various levels is recognised within the scheme, with structure, progression and evidence, allowing access to the higher levels of award. Each standard is intended to be progressive and achievable.

The scheme recognises homes and staff for increasing the amount, nature and progression of exercise to benefit service users. Private providers of activities within the home can be included within this award scheme, as long as the physical activity is regular on the activity
programme, with the support of at least one member of home staff.
