Celebrating Volunteers' Week

Published on 03 June 2026 03:27 PM

Between the 1-7 June it is Volunteers' Week and here at Age UK East London we want to say a HUGE thank you to our 80+ amazing volunteers who help make East London a place where people can age better.

Volunteers bring warmth and connection that cannot be replicated by services alone. In turn, many tell us that volunteering enriches their own lives – building friendships, confidence, and a stronger sense of belonging.

Almost 70 befrienders give up a bit of time each week to befriend an older person, and overcome loneliness and isolation. Elsewhere volunteers have a huge part to play in our community centres and backoffice, making sure that activities run smoothly, and keeping the wheels turning.

We’re incredibly fortunate that our corporate partners volunteer with us year-round to host events and this week 18 team members from our newest corporate partner, Travel Trade Consultancy, are helping with digital inclusion, gardening and Holly St Lunch Club.

Volunteer with us

We have exciting and fulfilling roles at our Centres and for befrienders. Anyone aged 18+ is welcome to volunteer with us, wisdom and experience is valued.
