At Age UK East Sussex, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. From helping in our shops to supporting our all important services, they give their time, energy, and kindness to help make East Sussex a great place to grow older.

This year, we’ve welcomed many new faces - 10 volunteers in August, 15 in September, and 7 already in October. Each one joins for their own reasons, but the top three motivations are clear: to give something back, help others, and gain experience.

A Big Thank You to Our Volunteers

“We would like to celebrate our volunteers and say thank you for all of your support and help. Without your help we couldn’t provide the services that are crucial to older people across East Sussex. Your efforts are what make us a success. Volunteers like you are at the heart of what we do and we simply couldn’t do it without you.”

Why Volunteers Matter

In our Befriending service, volunteers play a particularly special role.

Our volunteers are at the heart of the Befriending service, and it simply wouldn’t be the same without them,” says Fran Highton, Befriending Co-ordinator.

“Through regular chats and companionship, they help reduce loneliness and foster meaningful connections for the older people we support. We’re truly grateful for their time, care, and the positive impact they make in our local community.”

Could You Join Them?

Every volunteer helps make East Sussex a warmer, friendlier place for older people - and there’s always room for more.

We are always in need of more volunteers and would love to hear from anyone who feels they have the time to give something back to the community,” adds Sarah.
