Age UK Exeter client, Paddy Tuohy's art is on display at Powderham Castle this July

Many congratulations to Paddy Tuohy who has his first art exhibition at Powderham Castle this July. Paddy has been helped by our enabling team and is soon to become a volunteer in our Westexe Day Centre.

"Age UK Exeter came into my life at a crucial time, on the cusp of giving up, they came forward with an enabling team and turned things around. Leading to me finding the courage to do my first art exhibition" - Paddy Tuohy

Our Enabling & Home Help service has been supporting Paddy since Nov 2017. Twice a week our enablers visit him to help to deal with paperwork, manage his home and any everyday life challenges which occur. With our teams support he has re-engaged with his passion for landscape painting, which he admits has been the thing that has helped him deal with a very difficult childhood and challenging mental health issues.

"We have supported him to move from a rather dingy ground floor flat, looking out on a concrete car park, to a bright and airy, second floor flat, with a magnificent view out across to Holden Hill. He is now involved in his first, of many, painting exhibitions, at Powderham Castle, where he will be Artist of the day on 3rd August, when he will be painting in the landscape, at Powderham. He already has a second exhibition lined up and no doubt more to follow.” - Tony Harvey (Deputy Enabling Manager).

The frames for the exhibition were made by our brilliant Men In Sheds project.

ARTmazing is the latest art show created by Anna FitzGerald from WooHoo exhibitions.

"It focuses on supporting the community with art. It has no funding and has just grown naturally with a small core group of people working hard to break down barriers. The artists exhibiting are either professionals or beginners some have physical difficulties, some have mental health issues others have special needs. WooHoo considers labels are not important, art is art, if anyone wants a bit of extra support to get to the point of exhibiting then that is freely given."

ARTmazing is a maze, it has tall walls and is made from hundreds of boards, perfect for the majesty of  Powderham Castle.
