About us

We're a local charity working in the community to support older people, their families and carers. We want everyone to be able to love later life.
Who we are
Age UK Gateshead is an independent local charity. We've been working in the local community to help older people since 1972. We have 31 dedicated staff and over 90 volunteers helping us to deliver services and activities for older people in Gateshead
Where you can find us
Our main office and day centre is based in Gateshead and we have a number of charity shops across Gateshead.
How we are funded
We rely on your support to keep serving the community. We are supported by donations from the public, income from our charity shops, and some charitable grants, as well as some Local Authority and Clinical Commissioning Group funding.
What we do
-
We give advice
Our trained advisors offer free information and advice to older people and their families. In 2017/18, our advisers helped local older people to claim over £1,250,000 that they were entitled to.
-
We care
Above all, we care.
Over 4500 older people in Gateshead were helped by Age UK Gateshead last year.
-
We befriend
Our volunteer befrienders visit lonely older people in the community who have no one to talk to. In 2016 our volunteers visited 300 older people who would otherwise be alone.
-
We provide activities
Our day centre has a wide range of activity groups and events, such as lunch clubs and exercise classes, giving older people the opportunity to keep fit, socialise, or learn a new skill.
