Could you be one of our Digital Champions?

Someone receiving support with their laptop

We’ve launched a new project which aims to inspire, encourage and support people with all aspects of being online. The digital world has so much potential to improve the sharing of information across the population. However, for this potential to become reality we must ensure as many people as possible have not only access to the internet but a confidence in their ability to use it as a tool to improve their quality of life. Currently age remains a huge indicator of being digitally excluded. In Gloucestershire, between 30,000 and 40,000 adults are effectively offline, meaning they either do not have access to the internet or do not have the skills to access the internet, or both. There are also up to 100,000 people who do have online access but are not making the most of their connectivity.

Our Digital Champions project is looking to address the concerns above by supporting people at each stage of their journey online. This may involve getting someone set up to start using the internet, exploring how to use devices or building confidence further with their usage. This support will be delivered with the help of our volunteers, who will provide either one to one or small group sessions to share knowledge and advice with older people within their community. If you enjoy using technology, are confident with different devices and would be interested in sharing your knowledge, we would love to hear from you!
