Are you looking for a meaningful way to gain skills, make friends and engage with your local community? We are looking for volunteers to get involved with our projects while having fun and reducing the social isolation experienced by many in the borough of Lambeth.

Joining our volunteering team helps our services reach a much wider range of people than they would otherwise and we are incredibly grateful for the dedication and support of our team of volunteers.

Please note that as an organisation we help anyone aged over 18 that needs our support, this is due to the terms set out by our funding. It may seem strange as an organisation that is known for helping older people but loneliness can affect anyone no matter their age. Most of our clients are 60+ however on occasion we do have younger referrals come through so please bare this in mind when we match you.

Your availability - please try and be as flexible as possible when it comes to your availability to volunteer. It's worth noting as well that if you chose in person befriending we may match you with a phone friend first as we always try and encourage our clients to eventually meet in person and we find that a few phone calls can help break the ice.

Face-to-Face or Phone Befriending

You’ll visit somebody who may be lonely or isolated once a week. You can sit and chat with a cuppa or go out for a coffee or a walk, it’s up to you. Or you can create meaningful moments for people through a weekly call over the phone. These calls provide engagement and enjoyment to people who are experiencing loneliness and isolation and are a great way to develop new friendships in your local area.

Minimum time commitment: 1 hour a week
Minimum length of commitment: 6 months

To become a Face-to-Face or Phone Befriending volunteer for us please use the application form below:

TFL Fundraising Volunteer

Age UK Lambeth regularly collects donations at TFL stations across Lambeth, including Waterloo, Brixton and Oval stations.

Station collections provide a great opportunity to raise awareness of Age UK and our commitment to helping Lambeth residents make the most of later life.

This role is a great way to give back to the local community, requiring just a small amount of your time. Yet the monetary impact on our services is huge! With flexible commitments and a variety of locations to choose from, this is a great role for anyone looking to help out sporadically on days that work for you.

- Minimum time commitment: 2-3 hours a month
- Minimum length of commitment: Flexible

Walking Volunteer

Are you able to assist our older Lambeth residents with a weekly group walk?

Age UK Lambeth is launching a healthy walks programme in each of our neighbourhoods in January 2023. The programme will be in memory of our former Chair Diana Kahn and used to encourage our MYsocial members to hit the streets and make the most of our local parks!

- Minimum time commitment: 1-2 hours a week
- Minimum length of commitment: 3 months

As well as our volunteer training you will also receive free specialised walking lead training to help you prepare for your role. This training provides you with a certicate which is yours to take away.

Event Volunteer - Magnolia Club

Age UK Lambeth’s Magnolia Club is for people living with dementia and their carers. It provides a soothing and creative environment via social interaction and arts and crafts activities.

We are recruiting volunteers to join us in supporting these sessions. Are you kind, patient, and have an understanding of older people with dementia? Maybe you have an interest in arts and crafts (i.e. card-making, drawing, painting, knitting, crocheting)? We’d love to hear from you.
