Age UK London is delighted to announce the appointment of Elizabeth Drury, (known to most as Liz) as its new Chief Executive Officer. Liz brings with her over 25 years of experience in Communications and Policy across Education, Business, Health, Wellbeing, and advocacy for older people.
Liz joins Age UK London from the Third Age Trust, where she served as Head of Policy and Communications for nearly a decade. The Trust supports over 1,000 u3a charities and more than 400,000 older adult members across the UK. Her leadership has been instrumental in amplifying the voice of older people and shaping national conversations around ageing.
In addition to her professional achievements, Liz is Chair of Dog A.I.D., a disability charity that empowers people with physical disabilities by helping them train their own dogs to become assistance animals.
A lifelong Londoner, Liz lives near Greenwich with her husband, two children. Her deep understanding of the city’s social and political landscape positions her perfectly to lead Age UK London into its next chapter.
“I am thrilled to have been welcomed into the Age UK London family,” said Liz. “I look forward to working with the team and trustees as we lead the charity through the next phase of its development, strengthening its finances and creating a new strategy to guide our work to make London a better city for older people.”
Liz is passionate about fostering a wider debate on the benefits of a positive approach to ageing for everyone, regardless of circumstances, and is committed to building on Age UK London’s legacy to help make the capital a truly age-friendly city.
Strengthening the Board
Age UK London is also pleased to announce the appointment of three new Trustees to its Board:
- Simon Bottery, Senior Fellow at The King’s Fund, brings extensive expertise in health and social care policy.
- Chloe Hardy, a seasoned advocate for equality and inclusion, adds strategic insight from her work across the voluntary sector.
- Natalie de Silva, CEO of Age UK Wandsworth, offers frontline experience and a deep understanding of local service delivery for older Londoners.
These appointments mark an exciting period of renewal and ambition for Age UK London, as the organisation continues to champion the rights and wellbeing of older people across the capital.
Dr Tony Burch, Chair of Age UK London’s Board said “Liz’s appointment alongside our three new Trustees is great news and will mean that Age UK London can continue our important work, previously led by Abi, campaigning on behalf of older Londoners. We have a dynamic team, and we have great campaigns to work on over the coming months and years, so we look forward to Liz joining us.”
