"It's Never Too Late!"

Published on 15 October 2019 04:13 PM

We're campaigning to increase take-up of the flu vaccination in London!

No one likes getting the flu. However the flu virus is a particular risk for older people and those with long-term conditions, particularly in a city as busy as London.

Flu vaccine uptake in the capital is worryingly low, with Greater London holding eighteen of the twenty Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) areas with the lowest flu vaccine uptake.

In response, as part of our Public Health campaigning, Age UK London has launched the "It's Never Too Late!" campaign, a focused promotion of the flu vaccine across London. The campaign will place addition focus on targeting the boroughs in north and northwest London, which have the lowest levels of take up in the country.

As part of the campaign, we will be visiting older people's organisations across London to provide the tools to help them spread the word about the flu vaccine - including our campaign leaflet, poster, and "Flu Fighter" toolkit. If you would like us to visit your organization, please email Sharon Tynan stynan@ageuklondon.org.uk

We launched the "It's Never Too Late!" campaign with a half-day conference on Tuesday 26th November, which was targeted at older people’s organisations. This included borough-based Age UKs, Pensioners Forums, BAME and trusted grassroots organisations.

There has been a 20% increase in flu patient admissions to intensive care in the first week of January, so make sure you get your free flu jab as soon as possible. Flu season can last until April, so ask your GP or Pharmacist for your flu jab today – it’s never too late!

To book your free flu vaccine, please talk to your GP or pharmacist. You can find your local GP by clicking here and your local Pharmacist by clicking here.
