Stretch and Flex

The benefits of yoga and meditation have been publicly spoken of in recent years. Coupled with this is the advent of apps such as Headspace, which help people to meditate at home.
We are in an age where health and wellbeing have become more of a focus. Part of this might be because there’s now more of a conversation around mental health and stress management.
Yoga and meditation are cited as two activities that can help to alleviate stress, boost mood, and improve health.
But what is yoga and meditation?
Yoga is a mind and body practice that involves physical postures and breathing techniques. It’s an ancient practice that originates in India. It can enhance fitness, and has cardiovascular health benefits.
Meditation involves focusing the mind to achieve calm and clarity. It can reduce anxiety, improve sleep, and bring a sense of peace.
In a community setting, there’s also great social benefit to these activities. The activities may be the main focus of such sessions, however the time for a chat before and after sessions can give everyone a mood boost and enhance social connectivity within communities.
All the above considered, that’s why we decided to seek funding to start our own yoga and meditation classes. We were delighted when we eventually won funding to start our sessions.
Our Stretch and Flex class is led by our instructor Jamie and incorporates a gentle seated yoga session with meditation.
The session runs from 2:30pm-3:30pm every Monday at Brunswick Village Extra Care, 50 Brunswick Street, M13 9PE. To run the group, we ask for a contribution of £2 per person for each session.
