How Age UK Norfolk Can Help You Stay Warm, Well & Secure This Winter

As winter approaches, staying warm isn’t just about comfort—it’s about health, independence, and peace of mind. At Age UK Norfolk, our Temperature Check Your Winter campaign ensures that older adults across the county have the support they need to keep their home warm, manage energy costs, and stay safe as the temperatures drop.

What We Offer:

  • Free Room Thermometers
We’re giving away room thermometers to help you monitor the temperature in key living areas. It’s a simple yet vital tool—keeping your main living space at a stable 18 °C (about 64 °F) can significantly reduce health risks like flu, breathing issues, and high blood pressure.
  • Benefits & Fuel Discount Support
Our friendly advisors offer one-to-one welfare benefit checks to help you understand what you’re entitled to. We can also guide you through applications and form-filling to make the process stress-free.
  • Helpful Guides & Checklists
We’ve prepared user-friendly resources—such as the Temperature Check Your Winter checklist—to help you prepare ahead and understand what support is available locally.
  • Easy Access to Support—By Phone or Face-to-Face
Whether you prefer a phone call or an in-person chat, we're here for you. Our Information & Advice team will be out and about across Norfolk at events, and our telephone advice line is open Monday–Friday, 10 am–4 pm for any questions.

Why It Matters:
Many older people worry about staying warm. In fact, almost half of those aged 66 and over worry about heating their homes, with 75% saying their homes feel colder than they'd like (Age UK). Cold homes can worsen existing health conditions and even increase the risk of serious illnesses. That’s why our campaign is so important—but we can only reach as many people as we’re given the capacity to support.
