A helping hand from a friendly local charity
Spend the best of times together
Our Home Support service assists older people with household tasks, so you, your family and friends can make the most of the time you spend together.

Age UK Norfolk's Home Help service provides cheerful one-to-one, non-medical, in-home help to older people.

Our SupportGivers can provide:

  • Companionship

Younger woman and older womanWe offer flexible befriending and personal assistance for people who feel isolated and lonely, or maybe just need a little extra company and conversation. Our clients have found that regular companionship can really make a difference to their wellbeing, and helps them to feel stimulated both physically and mentally.

  • Meal preparation

A good diet is important at any age, but preparing food is something we often find more challenging in later life. Older people are sometimes afraid of inconveniencing friends and relatives by reaching out for help with cooking. Our SupportGivers can provide assistance with the meal preparation process, and take individual dietary needs into consideration.

  • Domestic cleaning/light cleaning/laundry

We make regular visits to older people and can help with the house cleaning for as long as we are needed, from one hour up to eight hours per day – and we’re available five days a week. Our reliable house cleaning service means that you can spend more time with those you care about, and less time doing the hoovering, washing up, and other household chores.

  • Shopping

Older people often find it difficult to navigate the supermarket or High Street alone. Busy shops, heavy baskets and transport there and back can all make the experience overwhelming. Some older people might find that they’re just not feeling up to the trip. At Age UK Norfolk, we completely understand. Our shopping service provides support.

  • Local transportation

Transportation is something that often becomes problematic in later life. Younger friends and family members may not always be available to take older people to hospital appointments or visits to the doctor, and using a taxi service often leaves older people lacking the companionship and moral support that they need. We offer regular and one-off transportation services.

  • Convalescence and respite support

The period following a hospital stay can be stressful, exhausting and overwhelming for patients and families alike. Our home help service is here to provide you with a little extra help, whether you need our assistance daily or just once a week.
