Support older people as a Neighbourhood Network Volunteer Ambassador.

What is The Neighbourhood Network Service?

We are looking for friendly, approachable and community-minded volunteers to become Neighbourhood Network Ambassadors in the Riverside area of North Tyneside. This exciting volunteer opportunity supports Age UK North Tyneside’s mission to help older people live well, stay independent and remain connected to their communities.

Neighbourhood Networks are community-based schemes that provide a wide range of activities and services designed to improve health, promote independence and reduce loneliness. They support older people to achieve positive outcomes linked to healthy ageing, social inclusion and wellbeing.

These networks may include social groups, clubs, outings, befriending services, home visits, and signposting to other local support services such as health and social care.

As a Volunteer Neighbourhood Network Ambassador, you will play an important role in helping older residents access these opportunities, build confidence, and feel more connected within their local community.

Purpose of the Role

The purpose of this role is to support older people to remain active, connected and engaged within their local community. By offering friendly encouragement and practical support, Volunteer Neighbourhood Network Ambassadors help individuals build confidence, maintain independence, and make informed choices about the services and opportunities available to them.

A key aim of the role is to increase people’s involvement in society through greater social contact and stronger community connections. Volunteers play an important part in reducing loneliness and social isolation by helping older residents access local groups, activities and support networks that promote a sense of belonging.

The role also contributes to improving mental health, physical wellbeing and overall quality of life. By helping people access meaningful opportunities, relevant services and social activities, volunteers support healthier and more positive ageing.

Neighbourhood Network Ambassadors also help strengthen local neighbourhood networks by connecting people, promoting inclusion, and encouraging participation within the wider community.
