In August 2020, the BBC introduced a new scheme for the over 75s licence fee concession. Free TV Licences for all people aged over 75, which were previously paid for by the UK Government came to an end. However, the BBC said it would continue to fund the concession for anyone who claims Pension Credit.

TV Licensing is writing directly to anyone affected by the changes. No one needs to do anything until they receive this letter and there will be plenty of time to set-up a licence.

The letter includes information on how to apply for a free licence if people are receiving Pension Credit, and the payment options that are available if they need to buy a licence. This includes the launch of the 75+ Plan that spreads the cost of the licence (with no additional charge) in equal monthly, fortnightly or weekly instalments.
