At Age UK Northumberland, our Scams Awareness service aims to prevent older people in Northumberland from becoming victims of scams. Through one-to-one chats and group talks, we provide practical advice and support on how to recognise a scam, and how to feel safe.

What is the Scams Awareness service?

Age UK Northumberland’s Scams Awareness service is funded by Lloyds Banking Group. The service aims to prevent older people falling victims to scams by providing practical information, advice and support to ensure people feel safe and confident if they are faced with a scam.

How is the service delivered?

We deliver this service through the following means:

One-to-One Scams Chats

Individual scams chats are totally free, and this is how we can help you.

  • We can take time to understand what happened if you have been the victim of a scam, and you can talk in a safe space without judgement.
  • Help you to report a scam to the relavant organsations.
  • Learn how you can protect yourself from future scams. This could be through making your password stronger, or adding extra security features on digital devices.
  • Stop unwanted calls with the installation of a free TrueCall call blocker if required.

Community Group Talks

We also go into the local community, and across Northumberland, providing information about Scams (and our array of services) through the delivery of presentations or participating in group discussions. Previously, we have visited:

  • Libraries
  • Coffee Mornings
  • Women's Institutes
  • Information Events
  • Community Meetings
