My Community Link is a short term, enabling service that links a trained volunteer with an individual who needs a little extra help or support. Working as part of our Community team you will work with an individual towards an agreed goal. This goal will support them to re-engage, be that much more independent and live life to the full.

What does the befriender volunteer role involve?

Helping a person to feel confident to use the bus again or going along with them as they start a new group or activity, helping them to learn a new skill or just re-engage with something that matters to them.

The support offered will be varied and bespoke to what each person needs/wants. There are many people who live in our communities who just need a little extra help to be as independent as possible and live life to the full…this is especially so following an illness or bereavement. Supporting a person to live life to the full, makes a real difference

What will you get out of it?

  • Fun and enjoyment.
  • Sense of pride – Being able to see and hear first-hand the positive impact your involvement is having on someone’s life.
  • Social connection – The opportunity to meet a wide range of people and build lasting friendships.
  • Develop new skills – We will ensure you feel fully supported and knowledgeable to volunteer to the best of your ability.
  • Being part of your local community – Supporting an individual can provide a feel-good factor.

What sort of person are we looking for?

Volunteers will be meeting people face-to-face so need to be friendly and approachable. Someone who is enthusiastic, has a flexible approach, is caring but professional and willing to learn new systems as required.

What is expected of me?

We require around six months commitment as a minimum however this will vary. You will work with them towards an end goal.
