About us
Age UK Sandwell is a local charity which grew out of the Age Concerns across the borough.
We work in the community to support older people, their families and carers. We want everyone to be able to love later life.
Who we are
We've been working in the local community to help older people for over 30 years. We have dedicated staff and volunteers helping us to deliver services and activities for older people in Sandwell.
The current Age UK Sandwell enitity started life as Age Concern Sandwell in the year 2000, after the amalgamation of multiple smaller Age Concerns across the borough. When first formed the charity was based in Bearwood Road, Smethwick before moving to Bull Street, West Bromwich and then the Pure Offices in Oldbury. Age UK Sandwell now share a HQ at Stratford House, with local bases across the borough being reviewed.
Interestingly Age UK Birmingham is made up of the former Age Concern Kingstanding, Age Concern Perry Barr and Age Concern Weoley Castle, all fairly close to the border between Birmingham and Sandwell.
Age UK Birmingham took Age UK Sandwell under it's wing during September 2018 and was cemented as Age UK Sandwell's parent by both charities' Annual General Meetings just over a month later.
Where you can find us
Most outreach and drop in services are currently suspended due to the "Coronavirus" (CoVID-19/SARS-CoVID-2) pandemic. The situation is under continuous review and opportunities to restart Information and Advice drop ins and open up activities to the over 50s across Sandwell are being investigated.
How we are funded
We rely on your support to keep serving the community. We are supported by donations from the public, income from the Age UK Birmingham charity shop in Hamstead, and some charitable grants including from Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council.
