Coronavirus Appeal – Please help!

Published on 20 March 2020 05:57 PM

The coronavirus outbreak means that more older people need our services and they need them more desperately.

Right now in excess of 200,000 older people in Birmingham and Sandwell are affected by the self-isolation measures the Government has advised. They are frightened of the health risks associated with the virus. They are scared that they won’t get enough food from the shops.

We can never allow a single elderly person to go hungry during this crisis - that’s something we can call agree on. So, at Age UK Birmingham and Age UK Sandwell we are determined to be there for older people who need our help, and especially those with no-one else to turn to. We are providing a really vital lifeline, but we desperately need your help too.

Age UK Birmingham and Age UK Sandwell are creating a lifeline for those most at risk in our City and Borough.

With your help we can ensure the elderly don’t go hungry. We want to be able to take nutritious hot meals to the doorsteps of those who need it most, especially those who can’t afford it and rely on us to help them.

Please give generously so we can raise £50,000 to scale up our efforts in response to this continuing crisis, especially for those who have been advised to self isolate for at least 12 weeks such as the over 70s and those with certain underlying health conditions.

Every pound you donate means we can reach more people. Thank you.

You can also send us a cheque.

Please make it payable to "Age UK Birmingham" and send it to us at

Age UK Birmingham & Age UK Sandwell,
Stratford House,
Stratford Place,

Please enclose a note saying it's a donation and if you want it to benefit our efforts in Birmingham, Sandwell, or both.

We are also looking for volunteers to bolster our numbers – many of our current volunteers are older people who now also need support.

If we find that the needs of older people change during this emergency or we raise more than £10,000, we will apply any money raised to where the needs are greatest.

Although it is our aim to raise at least £10,000, if this target cannot be met the funds raised during this emergency appeal will still be used to scale up our efforts to respond to this crisis.
