Household waste recycling centres re-opening

Published on 04 May 2020 11:51 AM

A number of household waste and recycling centres across Greater Manchester - including 2 in Stockport - will reopen from Saturday 2 May with some restrictions and new measures in place to protect the health and wellbeing of residents and staff during the coronavirus pandemic.

The opening times for the centres in Stockport will be:
• Adswood - Monday to Sunday 8am to 6pm
• Bredbury - Saturday and Sunday 8am to 6pm (Closed Monday to Friday)

Rose Hill in Marple will remain closed.

Centres will be accepting bagged general waste only: they will not accept recycling, green waste or white goods at this time. Residents should only make these journeys if absolutely essential, in keeping with government guidelines.

Due to social distancing measures, staff will not be available to support residents. Only one person from a vehicle can unload waste.

The centres will be open to Greater Manchester residents who show proof of address, such as a council tax, gas, or electricity bill. Driving licences will not be accepted.

In order to control the number of vehicles accessing the centres at any one time, a traffic control system will be introduced based on odd and even number plates. It will work on a 2-week rota to limit the amount of traffic visiting the centres and limit the potential for staff and the public to be exposed to the virus.
