Bring Your Own Vinyl: A Peer-led Musical Coffee Morning

At our Older People’s Advisory Forum in April, where Wandsworth residents help shape the services and activities we offer at Age UK Wandsworth, community member Bill shared a great idea: a music listening café where people could bring along their favourite vinyl records, enjoy music together, rediscover old favourites, discover something new, and chat about the songs and artists that matter to them.

The idea is simple. Everyone brings a few LPs along (or chooses from our growing collection), Bill takes on the role of DJ, and together we spend a relaxed morning listening to great music and sharing memories.

A few weeks later, we launched a trial session to see how people would get on and whether there would be interest. The response to our peer-led group was positive. Since then, our monthly sessions have continued to grow. We've listened to everything from classic rock to soul, jazz and much more.

Today, around ten regular members come together each month to enjoy music, conversation and a shared love of vinyl. New faces are always welcome, so if you would like to listen, reminisce, sing along or simply enjoy a cup of coffee in good company, please join us.

We meet every third Monday a month, 11.00 – 12.30am, at the Gwynneth Morgan Day Centre (52 East Hill, SW18 2HJ). You can find out more about Bring Your Own Vinyl on our website or by emailing outreach@ageukwandsworth.org.uk.

Got an Idea for a Group?

Bring Your Own Vinyl is a great example of what can happen when community members take the lead. We are always keen to support new peer-led activities and groups.

If you're aged 60 or over and have an idea for a group you would like to start, but don't yet have a venue or the support to get it off the ground, we would love to hear from you. Get in touch with us at outreach@ageukwandsworth.org.uk and let's explore how we can make it happen together.
